Club Name and Logo Change Official!

Capping almost one year of discussions and legal actions, the Portuguese Podengo Club of America (PPCA) officially changed its name to the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno Club of America, and is now known as PPPCA. A new Club logo reflects this name change, designed by PPPCA member Alex Coulter. PPPCA continues as the same incorporated organization, established in 2003, with a focus on the Pequeno variety, now considered a separate breed by the American Kennel Club. It is the largest and only incorporated club for the Podengo Pequeno in the United States and works closely with its sister Medio hunt club to protect and promote the Portuguese Podengo in the United States.

Podengo Independence Day! – PPPCA’s 7th Annual National Podengo Specialty

PPPCA’s 7th National Specialty took place on July 4th in Enfield, Connecticut and featured the Podengo Pequeno. Judge Luis Gorjao-Henriques of Portugal judged the Regular Classes, AKC Judge Madeleine Fish judged the Puppy Sweepstakes and AKC Judge Marge Calltharp judged the Non-Regular Class, Best Bred and Born in America.

Held in New England at the historic Powder Mill Barn, people traveled from as far as California and Colorado and throughout the USA to attend. Podengo Independence Day! was the theme of the Specialty and the site was decorated in red, white and blue on this most important of American holidays.

PPPCA members also showed their Podengos in AKC Companion Events and their AKC-recognized breeds at the nearby Yankee Classic, the largest dog show in New England, 8 miles away in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Specialty included a unique show, Best Bred and Born In America. Nothing says Independence Day quite like sound of the Star Spangled Banner and nothing introduces a Best Bred and Born in America show better than Bruce Springsteen’s song of that name. So a Specialty show CD was developed with this and other songs and given to all participants. The Junior Handlers Class was greeted with the hit song, “Walking the Dog.” and the voice of Amalia Rodrigues introduced the main event.

In addition to show’s CD, a fact-filled catalog was developed and t-shirts commemorating the date were available. PPPCA’s Annual Meeting took place the evening before the show and dinner at the award-winning Hazard Grille capped the evening of the show.

The 2009 National PPPCA Specialty was indeed a special event, brought together by the hard work of a terrific show committee. In addition to the Specialty Committee members, 67 PPPCA members and others contributed to the Specialty – volunteering their time, resources and ideas to make it all work so well. As one of the US judges wrote after the show - Good Dogs, Great People!

7ª Monográfica do Podengo Português nos EUA

O nome do clube e o logótipo mudados oficialmente!

Depois de um ano de discussão e acções legais o PPCA ( Portuguese Podengo Club of América ) mudou oficialmente o seu nome para PPPCA ( Portuguese Podengo Pequeno Club of América ). Um logótipo novo reflecte a mudança do nome, desenhado pelo sócio Alex Coulter. O PPPCA continua a mesma organização estabelecida em 2003, focando agora só a variedade Pequeno considerada uma raça separada pelo American Kennel Club. É a maior e única organização para o Podengo Pequeno nos Estados Unidos e trabalha juntamente com o seu clube congénere Médio Hunt Club para proteger e divulgar o Podengo Português nos Estados Unidos.

Dia da Independência do Podengo ! – Sétima Monográfica do PPPCA
A sétima Monográfica do PPCA , referente ao Podengo Pequeno teve lugar em Enfield no Connecticut no dia 4 de Julho . O juiz Luís Gorgão Henriques de Portugal julgou a classe Regular, a juíza do AKC Madeleine Fish julgou a classe Puppy e o juíza do AKC Marge Calltharp julgou a classe Non-Regular, e Melhor Nascido e Criado na América.

Realizou-se em New England no histórico Powder Mill Barn, os expositores viajaram desde a Califórnia o Colorado e de todo o país para estarem presentes.
O tema desta monográfica foi o Dia da Independência do Podengo e o local foi decorado em vermelho, branco e azul neste dia que é o mais importante feriado americano.

Os sócios do PPPCA também apresentaram os seus Podengos em eventos do AKC nomeadamente no Yankee Classic, a maior exposição canina em Springfield, New England, Massachusetts.

A monográfica incluiu uma exibição única, o Melhor Podengo Nascido e Criado na América. Nada define melhor o dia da independência como o som do Star Spangled Banner e nada introduz melhor o Melhor Nascido na América como a música de Bruce Springsteen, “Born in USA”. Foi lançado um CD musical com esta e outras musicas e oferecido a todos os expositores. A classe de Jovem Apresentadores foi recebida com o êxito musical “Walking the dog “ e a voz de Amália Rodrigues deu inicio ao evento principal.

Para além do CD musical, um catalogo foi entregue e camisolas comemorativas estavam disponíveis. A reunião anual do PPPCA teve lugar na noite anterior á exposição e um jantar no galardoado Hazard Grille encerrou a noite da exposição.

De facto a Monográfica do PPPCA de 2009 foi um evento especial só possível com o esforço de um fantástico comité. Para além do comité da Monográfica, 67 sócios e outros contribuíram para a exposição, oferecendo o seu tempo, meios e ideias para que tudo corresse tão bem. Como um dos juízes escreveu depois da exposição – Bons Cães. Excelentes Pessoas !
