than 100 Portuguese Podengos gather in Lisbon to attend the 2002 Monográfica

dogs and 27 national and international exhibitors attender the 13th Portuguese
Podengo Club's Specialty Show that took place in May 25, 2002, in “Tapada
da Ajuda”, Lisbon,.
The
organization was under the responsibility of the Portuguese Podengo Club.
José Romão and Pedro Delarue were the judges. From among
the breed best dogs presented, a small Podengo smooth-haired Júnior
Male: "Espinafre da Praia do Ribatejo" (in the photo) was chosen for Best
in Show.
This
annual assembly of breeders and other Podengo lovers, provided a day of
good will and friendship between all participants and visitors. It demonstrated
the breeders commitment to preserve this rare breed.
After
the show the traditional lunch took place. Many breed aspects where discussed,
specially the bureaucratic and financial difficulties to registrer dogs
in Portugal, and the problems felt by the amateur breeders from Portuguese
breeds. In the end all agreed to continue efforts to preserve this natural
breed.
