The 2001 World Dog Show took place in Portugal from June 8-10. The Pavilion of Exponor, in Porto had 7281 dogs entered from all over the world. The show was under the organization of the Portuguese Kennel Club. 
The small Portuguese Podengo smooth hair, "Rosmaninho da Praia do Ribatejo" led the Portuguese breeds. His classification constituting an enormous contribution for the breed promotion in national and international terms. 

Judge Hans Lehtinen from Finland classified Rosmaninho in second place at the 5th group, being the only Portuguese breed to classify among the first three group places. 
In the Portuguese breeds, the Portuguese judge José Cabral gave the first place also to PP smooth hair "Rosmaninho da Praia do Ribatejo from Luis Macedo.
